Wellness - Mind • Body • Spirit The Wellness concept of holistic health and well-being includes multiple dimensions of Mind, Body and Spirit. All dimensions are integrated into one whole. If one dimension is deficient, the whole will not be complete. We can achieve a sense of well-being and happiness when Mind, Body and Spirit are in harmony. But for many of us, holistic health and well-being is elusive and seems difficult to achieve. We feel frustrated by our limitations and problems and sometimes feel out of control. The concept of holistic health does not mean that we must have a goal of perfection. We do not all need to conform to the same ideals or health behaviors to achieve a state of well-being. Wellness or Holistic Health is a very individual state of being. What works for one individual may not work for another. Good diet and good health behaviors are important to beautiful and healthy skin. But the UV rays of the sun are known to damage skin. Some of those harmful effects — such as suntan or sunburn — are visible right away. But other skin changes, including liver spots or deep wrinkles, appear and worsen over time. With repeated sun exposure, the skin damage can even progress into cancerous tumors. Reducing your exposure to the sun - particularly between the hours of 10:00am and 4:00pm - is one of the most important things you can do to prevent skin damage and premature aging. • Breathe Fresh Air Each Day - Cigarette smoking robs our skin of oxygen and fills our bodies with toxic chemicals. Cigarette smoking also contributes to premature aging. People who smoke tend to have more wrinkles than nonsmokers - even when controlling for sun exposure, age and general complexion.
