Leucidal® Advanced Aloe is a natural, broad spectrum, primary preservative for cosmetics and toiletries. Leucidal® Advanced Aloe is manufactured by Active Micro Technologies. Leucidal® Advanced Aloe was developed to combine the performance of botanical extracts and fermentation products to create a nature-based antimicrobial with the added ability to soften, soothe, nourish and moisturize skin.
Leucidal® Advanced Aloe combines the well known skin care benefits of the aloe vera plant with a natural fermentation process to create this highly effective and multifunctional, antimicrobial product.

The unique technology utilized in the development of Leucidal® Advanced Aloe begins with macerated aloe vera leaves, a rich growth medium, and the Leuconostoc culture which produces a ferment filtrate. Ferment filtrates of this nature provide cosmetic bioactives valued for their ability to soothe, nourish and moisturize.
Leucidal® Advanced Aloe capitalizes on the ability of certain Leuconostoc species to restrict competition by producing antimicrobial peptides. By utilizing unique biotechnology, a fermentation extract with an effective concentration of these natural peptides was created. Leucidal® Advanced Aloe not only delivers skin nourishing cosmetic benefits, but also has the ability to preserve cosmetic formulations from microbial contamination.
Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations (MIC), using a standard growth media dilution method and both bacteria and fungal cultures, were determined to evaluate the ability of Leucidal® Advanced Aloe to protect against microbial proliferation. The results indicate that Leucidal® Advanced Aloe can provide effective protection of cosmetic formulations.
A double challenge test was then completed using 2.0% Leucidal® Advanced Aloe in a generic cream base formulation to confirm it’s ability to provide product preservation. Samples of cream were inoculated with bacterial and fungal cultures and then monitored for 28 days for microbial survival. The creams were re-inoculated and monitored for an additional 28 days. The results indicated positive preservation results for Leucidal® Advanced Aloe.
Use Recommendations: Leucidal® Advanced Aloe is temperature stable and its antimicrobial properties are most effective between pH 3 and 8. The suggested use levels are typically between 2.0% and 4.0%. This unique ingredient delivers the skin conditioning benefits of soothing and moisturization while functioning as a natural preservative in many cosmetic formulations.
Leucidal® Advanced Aloe is low odor and non-irritating.
Please note that every personal care formulation requires a preservative system that meets its specific needs. Therefore, every newly developed formulation should undergo challenge testing to ensure adequate preservation.
