Catnip essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves of the Catnip plant (Nepeta cataria). The Catnip plant is a member of the mint family and is well known for being a favorite of cats.
Recent studies have found Catnip Essential Oil to be an effective insect repellent – more effective at repelling mosquitoes than DEET. Nepetalactone is the constituent that is primarily responsible and gives Catnip Essential Oil an herbaceous scent.
To make a simple insect repellent, add 5 drops of Catnip Essential Oil to 4oz. isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. Combine with 4oz. of our Catnip Hydrosol. Package in a bottle with a spray mister. Shake before using.

Catnip Essential Oil is also useful as a topical anesthetic, anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic, astringent, and sedative.
